About 50 people from across the state came together on July 18th for VCPI’s Workforce Development 2020 meeting. If you were able to join us, comment about your experience here for others to see! The group represented treatment providers, peer programs, VT Departments of Health and Mental Health, Vermont State Colleges, professional associations and others. Together we considered questions about what’s been working well in Vermont to support those impacted by substance use and mental health issues, what the VT workforce (paid and unpaid) needs to feel prepared to do our work every day, and what, maybe who, are we missing in our attempts to develop a comprehensive array of services and supports. The group heard from DMH Commissioner Sarah Squirrel and from Northern Vermont University Provost, Nolan Atkins as well as several others who shared perspectives and updates. They worked in small groups to inform one another and identify areas of strength and challenges. Members ended the morning by voting to name supervisor training, provider self-care and community wellness/ resilience as primary areas of focus for VCPI’s work in this fiscal year.
